Now that you’re in Panopto, we will go over the process of creating videos in Panopto.
To review, there are two ways to get to Panopto. The direct method is to go in through your Pitt Portal, as defined in the Knowledge Base post on My Pitt Video. The second is to provision Panopto within a Blackboard course, as described in this post on Getting Started with Panopto. In either case, when you are finished, you should see a big blue Create button that, when selected, should you a multitude of options.
This will allow you to launch the Panopto Focus Recorder, and automatically sign you in. If you have selected a particular folder, or if you are doing this from a provisioned course, then it will also automatically select that folder for you begin recording. If you do not have the Panopto Focus Recorder installed on your computer, you will have the option to download the installer for this program.
This will allow you to upload an existing video file from your computer. Simply click and drag your video into the dotted box, or click inside the box to browse your computer for video files. You may be prompted to activate Microsoft Silverlight before uploading. You can upload multiple videos at once this way. All video formats are acceptable.
This will allow you to build and conduct a webcast, a live Panopto session that viewers can actively participate in. Give your webcast a name, verify the folder it takes place in, modify the privacy settings as needed, and add an optional description before clicking Create.
You will then be taken to the webcast session’s settings page. You may further modify your settings, as described in Panopto Folder Settings, copy the viewer link to provide it to your desired audience, and then launch your Panopto Focus Recorder to begin recording your webcast. Open the folder selection button, and locate the webcast session you just created and select Record to this Session to begin the session.
This will allow you to create a blank Panopto session, and begin constructing it from the ground up. You will first see a creation page similar to the Webcast creation page mentioned above, which will allow you to name and publicize your new session. Click the Create button at the bottom to go to the new session’s Settings page.
Working in sessions like these will usually involve extensive work in the Panopto Video Editor, however you can also do a direct recording from the Panopto Focus Recorder, just like with the Webcast mentioned above, by opening the folder selection button, and locating the built session you just created and selecting Record to this Session.
This will allow you to create a sub folder within any of your Panopto folders, whether they are provisioned Blackboard folder, or your personal folder. Videos can be uploaded or moved into these folder for the purpose of organization, or for the purpose of restricting or enabling their access to a different subset of users. This subfolder can inherit the permissions of the top level parent folder, or start completely private. Whatever you select, once it has been created, you can access this sub folder and modify the folder permissions completely independently of the top level folder, allowing you to grant access to unique groups of viewers.
